University of Iowa International Writing Program Celebrates 40 Years
The University of Iowa International Writing Program (IWP) will begin the celebration of its 40th anniversary by welcoming writers from 31 countries to a busy fall residency on the UI campus in Iowa City. Most of the writers will become part of the UI's rich literary culture for three months, late August through late November, and a few of the writers will make shorter visits.
2007 IWP events begin with readings Aug. 31 and Sept. 2
A busy schedule of public events during the 40th-anniversary residency of the University of Iowa International Writing Program will begin with readings at 5 p.m. Friday, Aug. 31, in the Paul Engle Lounge of the Shambaugh House; and at 5 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 2, in the Prairie Lights bookstore.
University Exhibit Highlights the IWP and East Asian Writers
The University of Iowa Libraries is celebrating the 40th anniversary of the International Writing Program with the exhibit "East Asia in the Midwest: 40 Years of East Asian Writers at the International Writing Program." The exhibit is on display in the North Exhibition Hall of the Main Library, as part of The International Writing Program 40th Anniversary celebration, and will be on view through October 2007 during regular library hours.
A reception and a reading by visiting Chinese writers is scheduled for Thursday, October 11, 6 p.m. - 7:30 p.m., in the Main Library. For a full calendar of events for the IWP Anniversary week celebration visit the IWP website.
