Arthur Asa Berger, professor emeritus at San Francisco State University, was the Journalism School Hall of Fame inductee. Berger received his master's degree in journalism from the UI in 1956 and a doctorate in American Studies from the University of Minnesota in 1965. Berger was a Fulbright scholar in Italy and taught at the University of Milan. He has been a visiting professor at the Annenberg School for Communication at the University of Southern California, in Los Angeles, at Heinrich Heine University in Dusseldorf, and the Hong Kong Polytechnic University's School of Hotel and Tourism Management, and at Jinan University of Guangzhou and Tsinghua University in Beijing, China. Berger has published more than 100 articles, numerous book reviews and more than 60 books on the mass media, popular culture, humor, tourism and everyday life.

The School of Journalism and Mass Communication in the University of Iowa College of Liberal Arts and Sciences awarded more than $150,000 in scholarships to its students on Friday, April 24. The students were honored at the annual Fourth Estate banquet, held at the Marriott Hotel and Conference Center in Coralville, Iowa.
