Danielle Evans, a 2006 graduate of the Iowa Writers’ Workshop, has debuted her first collection of short stories, Before You Suffocate Your Own Fool Self. The characters in these stories often find themselves having to serve as bridges between different races and cultures, never really fitting completely into any of them. Evans’ stories have been included in two editions of Best American Short Stories (2008 and 2010) as well as the 2010 edition of New Stories from the South. She is currently a professor of creative writing at American University in Washington, DC.
